INTRODUCTION TO Velma Matthews
Velma C. Matthews is a licensed and ordained minister anointed by God to preach the gospel and minister to all with excellence.
I am devoted wife of 44 years to Otis Matthews. Velma and Otis are the parents of two lovely children, Jessica and Timothy Matthews. The apples of their eyes are the grandchildren.
I am a graduate and alumni of Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana with a conferred degree in the Bachelor of Science Agricultural Economics. I have pursued studies at many institutes in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan and surrounding areas, including New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I served as the Congregational Care at Star Hill Church for several years. I am currently the Marketplace Chaplain for Marketplace Ministry.
I am the founder and director of Straight to the Heart Outreach– a ministry which originated in 2002. I love to share the love of God by helping people who are hurting bringing care, comfort, encouragement, and meeting their physical and spiritual needs.
As God continues to direct my life with the spiritual gifts of teaching, counseling, coaching and intercessory praying, I thank God for delighting the desires of my heart be fulfilled. As a licensed and ordained minister, I perform weddings, funerals, speaking engagements, organize and host prayer conferences/workshops. These opportunities allow me to proclaim the Word of God to people.
In my spare time, I utterly enjoy spending quality time with my family, watching movies, and relaxing on the beach, but my greatest joy and passion is spending time with God.
My favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Yes, I am a woman after God’s own heart!

THE MINISTRY
The purpose of this ministry is to share the Love of God and His salvation as well as bring comfort, care, and encouragement to those who are homebound or have special needs. The ministry's vision is for others to experience the life-changing power of God's love and compassion. My work within the ministry is to support people by delivering goods, attending to their spiritual needs, and being a confident or companion to anybody who needs it.
